A Weekend at the Posthotel in Leavenworth (Full Review!)
Last Updated on April 22, 2024 by Kelly
The Posthotel in Leavenworth is undoubtedly one of the best romantic getaways in Washington State. We recently stayed at the Posthotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. In this article, we’re sharing our full review of our stay at the Posthotel!
The Posthotel is located only a couple blocks away from Front Street, which is the main hub of Leavenworth. Even though the Posthotel is located close to town, it’s tucked away facing the Wenatchee River. We felt like we really get the best of both worlds: We were within walking distance to all the main attractions in Leavenworth, and we were secluded enough to feel like we were at a quiet chateau in the mountains.
In our opinion, the Posthotel is the best hotel in Leavenworth. Read on to find out why!

The Posthotel is a relatively new hotel to Leavenworth. The design of the hotel was inspired by European wellness retreats based in the mountains. The name Posthotel was chosen to reflect the role of small hotels in the Alps, which often also served as the town’s post office.
Although the hotel grounds are relatively large (with the hotel comprising 88,000 square feet), there are only 55 rooms for guests. Even when we visited on a Saturday night, the hotel felt quiet and relaxed.
The hotel is only open to adults, and it’s also closed to the general public. (The front doors remain locked unless you have a hotel key.) So, if you’re not staying at the hotel, you can’t pop in and look around. This helps maintain the feeling of a wellness retreat. In addition to luxurious suites, the hotel features a spa and an entire floor devoted to pools and hydrotherapy. (More on that below!)
Our Room Tour
Each room at the Posthotel is its very own suite. The rooms are spacious (approximately 500 square feet), and they feature a living room, gas fireplace, and large bathroom. The bathrooms have a large marble soaking a tub, a rain shower, a separate toilet room, and double sinks. The bathroom mirror even had a built-in television!
The beds are king-sized and were incredibly comfortable. We loved their pillows so much, we even ordered two for our home! (You can purchase the pillows too if you’d like to have some luxury at home.)
Most of the rooms also feature a view of the Wenatchee River and the Cascade mountains in the distance.
We stayed in the Juliet Room, which had a private balcony overlooking the river. One of my favorite moments of the entire weekend was having a glass of wine and playing a game of cribbage while soaking in the magnificent view.
What Was Included in Our Stay
In addition to staying in a lovely room on a dreamy property, the price of our stay included a number of additional benefits:
- Breakfast (7:30am-10:30am)
- Lunch (11am-1:30pm)
- Dessert (7pm-9pm)
- Coffee/tea/water station
- Slippers to take home
- Steel water bottles to take home
- Complimentary parking in the underground garage
- Free WiFi
- Equipment rentals (bicycles, snowshoe, or cross-country skis)
- Putt-putt golf at Enzian’s 18-hole course
- Full access to the Pool and Wellness area
Check out our post on the amenities at the Posthotel for more information!
The only thing that seemed not to be included was dinner, which was a good incentive to try some of the amazing restaurants in Leavenworth before returning to the hotel to hibernate in our robes again. It is possible, though, to order room service for dinner if you don’t want to leave the property. It’s just not included in your stay like the other meals.
The Pool and Wellness Center
The pool is the reason why we booked our trip to the Posthotel. It’s a magnificent indoor/outdoor saltwater pool that can be used in all seasons. Little did we know that the pool is just one component of the wellness center! We were delighted to find out that there were 7 spas and saunas, as well as an assortment of plunge pools, experience showers, and reflexology pools. On top of all of that, there was also an indoor hot tub and an outdoor hot tub. And, I kid you not, there is even a napping room. The napping room has several twin beds and is a quiet space to rest and relax. They really thought of everything.
Stepping into the Pool and Wellness Center was like stepping into a sanctuary.
There’s no photography or cell phones allowed, so I’ll do my best to describe it. We weren’t sure what to try first, but luckily the hotel provides laminated cards with suggested wellness circuits that focus on detoxification, fatigue, and sore muscles.
The Seven Sauna and Steam Rooms
- The Herbal Steam Room: A full-marble steam room with comfortable marble lounge chairs and eucalyptus aromatherapy
- Kachelofen Hutte: A rustic room lined with local pine wood and a gentle, dry heat
- Erlholz Sauna: A circular room lined with alder wood and a therapeutic dry heat
- Eis Sauna: A cool, refreshing room with onyx and herbal mint aromatherapy
- Floral Steam: A high-humidity steam room with lavender aromatherapy
- Grotto Steam: A warm stone tepidarium (similar to a Roman bath) with gentle steam
- Finish Sauna: A cedar-lined room lined with a stained glass ceiling and an intense dry heat
We spent hours rotating between each of the saunas over and over again. It was definitely difficult to choose a favorite, but we ultimately decided that the Herbal Steam Room (what we called “the marble room”) was our favorite. The marble stone chairs were so luxurious, and the eucalyptus was relaxing without being overbearing. The room features handheld cooling sprayers, so when we got too hot, we would simply spray our chairs with cool water and resume.
Plunge Pools, Experience Showers, and Reflexology
As if 7 saunas weren’t enough, the wellness center also contained 2 spiral-shaped plunge pools. The water was frigid, and we felt so rejuvenated going for a quick plunge between the saunas. It was a shock to our system and we felt so alive. (It was also helpful knowing that there was a steam room just a few steps away to warm up again.)
The wellness center also had two experience showers. One was a cool rain shower that we used to cool off during our circuit. The other shower was outfitted with an electric panel that allowed us to choose multiple shower heads and lighting variations!
We also thoroughly enjoyed the reflexology pools. The wellness center contained a series of 4 pools that we walked through to give some care and attention to our feet. Each pool was a different temperature (some hot and some cold), and each pool had different rock textures. (Some pools featured larger rocks and others contained smaller pebbles). If you enjoy hiking, I can imagine nothing better than walking through those reflexology pools after a long hike!
The Pool
The Posthotel’s pool is truly a showstopper. It is massive. It contains an indoor portion that seamlessly transitions to an outdoor pool after you pass through an opening between two massive glass panes. There are marble slabs in the outdoor portion that feature hydrotherapy jets. On the indoor portion, there are two specific areas where you can stand and enjoy multiple hydrotherapy jets. (Just look for the button on the edge of the pool.) We came for the pool, and the pool delivered!
The Spa at the Posthotel
As if an entire wellness center wasn’t enough, the Posthotel also has a boutique spa. We booked a couple’s Swedish massage that was easily one of the best massages of my life. There are also 2 more saunas located in the spa (one in each locker room). I didn’t notice anyone using them either time I visited the locker rooms, so if you’re looking for a more quiet sauna experience, book a spa treatment and enjoy!
The spa also has a beautiful relaxation room with chaise lounges, thick blankets, and a gas fireplace. I could imagine how amazing it would be to relax there during the winter and watch the snow fall. (A good reason for us to come back!)
Dining
We often travel just for the food. It’s one of the things we enjoy most about a new destination or culture.
Our stay at the Posthotel included breakfast, lunch, and dessert. We could choose between dining on the terrace, dining inside, or taking the food up to our room. We chose the terrace each meal to enjoy the phenomenal weather. I had to constantly remind myself I was in Washington and not in Europe!
Breakfast at the Posthotel
Each morning we were given a menu with multiple options. We had our choice of juices, coffee, espresso, and teas. I chose a chai tea latte and my husband chose a vanilla latte. Our server also recommended combining juice with sparkling water for a juice spritzer, so I chose a grapefruit spritzer. (It was refreshing and delicious!) Our server also told us that the apple cider combined with sparkling water was also a personal favorite, so we will have to try that next time!
Our server also asked if we would like to have a plate of scones with our coffee, which we happily indulged. The scones were served with devonshire cream and their house jam. We were so happy to be holding a warm up of coffee, nibbling on scones, and enjoying the outdoor air. It made for a perfect start to the morning!
The menu featured a handful of main dishes that all looked equally delicious. Our server told us we didn’t have to choose just one, and he suggested we order a third dish to share. (Tip: Don’t be afraid to ask for more!) We took a photo of the full breakfast menu below, along with some of our choices.
Lunch at the Posthotel
After an active morning of bicycling and playing putt-putt golf, we returned to the hotel for lunch. We started with iced tea along with the chef’s soup. The soup choice our first day was a roasted poblano and corn chowder. The choice the second day was an artichoke and lemon soup. We were also served bread with a creamy herbal butter.
We thoroughly enjoyed the main dishes. Over the course of our stay, we tried the bratwurst, BLT, salmon with vegetables, summer greens with goat cheese, and petite romaine salad with herbed chicken. Below is pictured the lunch menu during our visit.
Dessert at the Posthotel
The only meal not served at the Posthotel is dinner. After dinner, though, when you return to the hotel, dessert is waiting for you. We enjoyed a chocolate mousse with whipped cream and raspberries on our first night, and a Swedish cream with strawberry rhubarb coulis and Russian teacakes on the second night.
Nearby Activities in Leavenworth
We took full advantage of the bicycle rentals and did a quick ride to the adjacent Waterfront Park. We crossed the bridge and rode through the trails at Blackbird Island, where there are lots of secluded alcoves along the river to sit and enjoy the the rushing water.
Enzian’s professionally-designed putt-putt course is also located within walking distance, so we enjoyed a complimentary round.
Leavenworth has dozens of shops and restaurants for explore. We visited the book store (A Book For All Seasons), the Christmas store (Kris Kringl), and game shop (Krampus Kave).
Posthotel Room Price: Was it “Worth It”?
Yes. Yes. Yes. It was absolutely worth staying at the Posthotel.
Let me type yes a few more times.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
In our opinion, it was money well-spent. While the nightly room price is expensive, a number of included amenities makes the price more reasonable. (Remember that breakfast, lunch, and dessert are included in that price.) More than that, we found the hydrotherapy experience to be unique. It’s just not something you can experience anywhere else. We have never seen a wellness center even close to competing with the luxury of the Posthotel.
The room prices were expensive, and they change depending on the season and day of the week. We spent $585 for Saturday night and $515 for Sunday night. Since then, prices have risen a bit.
To maximize your stay and get the most out of your dollar, we recommend arriving to Leavenworth early and booking spa treatments prior to your check-in time. That way, you can access the property and start to enjoy the amenities earlier in the day. When your stay is over, you can stay a bit past check-out time. Check-out time is at 11am, but the front desk staff let us know we could hold onto our room key until 2pm to enjoy the amenities as well. Our recommendation is to savor every moment you possibly can while on the property!
Summary
Where else can you wear bathrobes all day, have your meals prepared for you, and experience an endless assortment of spas, saunas, and pools? Where else can you be secluded and with views of nature, but also centrally located to a charming town? Where else can you experience luxury at every turn of the step?
The Posthotel gave us an opportunity to relax and reconnect. We had been working full-time during the pandemic, while also caring for an infant (now toddler). The Posthotel was exactly what we needed to escape our frenzied schedules and to once again be attuned with each other.
Truthfully, we cannot recommend the Posthotel enough! We cannot wait to return.
