Our Stay at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort in Leavenworth (Full Review!)
Last Updated on April 21, 2024 by Kelly
I think that one of the most beautiful resorts in Leavenworth is the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. We spent a weekend there and I just loved the rustic cabins. The rooms were both cozy and luxurious. The resort has dining options on-site, a spa, and lots of trails. We never needed to leave the resort, which made it a perfect retreat for a relaxing weekend getaway. We enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to add on an additional night. In this post, I’m sharing our full review of the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. I’m including lots of our own photos to show you all about our stay!

About the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort
The Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort is located in Leavenworth, Washington. From the resort, it’s about a 10-minute drive to downtown Leavenworth. Although the resort is not walkable to the downtown area, the benefit of staying at the Sleeping Lady is that you will feel totally secluded in the alpine forest. The resort has everything you need: a restaurant, cafe, bar, pool, spa, and more… there’s really no need to leave once you are on the property. You can unpack and unwind in a totally immersive nature experience.
When you stay at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort, you’re also helping to support an important mission. The resort is committed to cultivating the arts and preserving nature. The founder of the resort, Harriet Bullitt, created the Icicle Fund which is a non-profit organization that has invested more than $40 million in local organizations that focus on the arts, history, and nature! So, you can feel extra-good when staying at the resort because you are also helping others.

Room Tour
The Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort consists of spacious cabin complexes located throughout the property. All of the rooms are luxurious and rustic.
We stayed in a loft room, which had a ladder to a second sleeping space upstairs. (Older kids would absolutely love that space!) There was a queen bed and a twin bed on the main floor, and a second queen bed in the loft. It felt like a tree house! The room was very spacious (325 square feet), and we were delighted to see luxurious robes waiting for us. (We used them often to walk to the pool and sauna!)
The resort also has two stand-alone cabins. The Rookery can sleep up to 8 people (perfect for a girls’ getaway trip or a family vacation!), and the Eyrie is a secluded cabin for couples.
Dining Options
One of the highlights of our experience at the Sleeping Lady was the dining!
The Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort previously offered a buffet breakfast and dinner at the Kingfisher Restaurant, but it’s important for you to know that the Kingfisher Restaurant is closed. I called their front desk recently to find out if they were planning to re-open that restaurant, and there are no current plans to re-open. However, there are two dining options available at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort: O’Grady’s Pantry and the Grotto Bar.
For lunch, we ate at O’Grady’s Pantry and Mercantile. It was nice to be able to walk to lunch, so we truly never had to leave the property during our entire stay. (Which is a bonus with a baby, because it can be a fiasco just trying to pack everything you need back into the car!)
We also really enjoyed the Grotto Bar. We grabbed drinks at the bar and then walked down the path to the Library building. If you want to have a fire in the wood stove, all you have to do is call the staff and they will start a fire for you. We enjoyed a nice, cozy game of cribbage by the fire.
Amenities and Activities
There was so much to do on the property!
Their pool and hot tub area is absolutely gorgeous, with a stunning view of the mountains. We took turns swimming while one of us played with the baby, and it was an enjoyable way to pass the afternoon! The pool is outdoor, so it’s open seasonally.
The resort also has a cedar sauna. It felt so nice to relax in a beautiful sauna in the woods.
The library cabin is filled with books and board games. Feel free to check out a book to bring back to your room or the river!
For families with young children, there is also a play barn filled with games and kids activities.
The resort also has beautiful art installments throughout the property. You can easily spend an afternoon following their self-guided art walk. There are dozens of pieces of art located throughout the property. One of our favorite installments was the Chihuly Icicles, which was created by Dale Chihuly himself. The piece is located outside of the Kingfisher restaurant.
If you’re looking for some deep relaxation, you’ll want to be sure to check out the Aspen Leaf Day Spa. In addition to massage packages, facials, and foot rituals, there is also a steam shower and a sauna.
There is also a gift shop filled with all sorts of beautiful pieces of art and souvenirs.
One of the best things about the resort is all of the trails around the property. Some of them are paved and stroller-friendly which we appreciated for our trip! Other trails will take you through the forest and down to the river.
Finally, there is a two-acre organic garden on the resort property. In addition to supplying produce and herbs for the restaurants, the garden contains beautiful flowers. If you want to take some beautiful photos, just stroll through the garden and head towards the gazebo!

History
The first known inhabitants of the region are the Yakama and P’squosa (Wenatchi) tribes. Beginning in the 1930s, the site was occupied by the 983rd Company of the Civilian Conservation Corps. In the 1940s, the site transitioned to a family ranch named Icicle River Ranch. In the 1950s, it became a youth camp for the Roman Catholic Church. And in 1991, the site was purchased to create the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. It was given the name “Sleeping Lady” due to the profile of the mountain.
Summary
We absolutely enjoyed our trip to the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. We thoroughly enjoyed some quiet time in the mountains, which re-centered us after a busy few months with a new baby.
We recommend staying at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort if you plan on hiking to Colchuck Lake, Stuart Lake, or to the Enchantments. The resort is located on Icicle Road and isn’t too far from the parking lot to access those famous hikes.
If you’re looking for a place to re-charge and be pampered, the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort is the place to go! We’re already making plans to visit the Sleeping Lady again!
