About the Bavarian Lodge in Leavenworth

The Bavarian Lodge opened in 2005 and was remodeled in 2015. The lodge is located right off Highway 2 in the center of downtown Leavenworth. The hotel has four floors and 90 rooms. It’s one of the larger hotels in Leavenworth.

The Bavarian Lodge has a number of amenities, including an outdoor pool and two outdoor hot tubs. (Note: The Bavarian Lodge doesn’t have an indoor pool. If you’re looking for an indoor pool, try the Enzian Inn in Leavenworth.)

The Bavarian Lodge has a complimentary hot breakfast buffet each morning. You can choose between having a village view or mountain view room. The hotel also has complimentary parking with some spaces available in a garage and many spaces available outside.

The Bavarian Lodge is also home to the Woodsman Pub, which is a micro pub located in the main building. The bar is rustic and a cozy place to hang out. The Woodsman Pub serves appetizers and they have an excellent beer selection.

Perhaps our favorite thing about the Bavarian Lodge is its location. Not only is the hotel walkable to all of the major downtown attractions, but many of the rooms have direct views of Front Street Park and the gazebo!

That means that if you book one of the village view rooms, you’ll be able to see many of the Leavenworth festivities without having to leave your room. (We think this would be especially awesome during the winter. Instead of waiting outside to see the Christmas Lighting Festival, you could watch it all unfold from the warmth of your hotel room!)

Our Experience at the Bavarian Lodge

We had been wanting to stay at the Bavarian Lodge for some time. We had recently stayed at the Posthotel, and we wanted to have a stay at the Bavarian Lodge next since it’s so popular.

When we checked into the Bavarian Lodge, we found out that there was an issue with our room, so they upgraded us to the Premium Village View King room. That was not a bad way to start off the trip! (We didn’t mention we were travel bloggers or anything, we just got extremely lucky this time.)

The Premium Village View King room was absolutely gorgeous. It had a rustic four-poster bed, a cute little fireplace, and a balcony overlooking downtown Leavenworth.

This is the room we would recommend for viewing the Christmas festivities in the winter. We kept thinking how comfortable it would be to watch the Christmas Tree Lighting while standing near the fireplace!

We were in Leavenworth for a very quick trip for this visit. We only stayed one night so that we could wake up very early and hike to Colchuck Lake, which is located nearby. Instead of leaving our home at 3am to drive to the trailhead, we decided to stay in Leavenworth the night before so we wouldn’t have to wake up so early.

We arrived to Leavenworth in the evening and got dinner at one of our favorite spots: Munchen Haus. (We previously wrote that we eat there nearly every time we are in Leavenworth, and we weren’t lying!)

We then got dessert at Whistlepunk Ice Cream Co. The line was extremely long and out the door, but it was well worth the wait. It was easily some of the best ice cream we have ever had! They make their own waffle cones, so we definitely recommend that you order a waffle cone for your ice cream. We ordered a scoop of the Cookies’n’Dreams and Bertha’s Caramel Brownie. Both were creamy and delicious!

We loved that both dinner and dessert were walkable from the Bavarian Lodge. We didn’t have to worry about parking in downtown Leavenworth!

After dessert, we walked back to the Bavarian Lodge for a glass of wine and a game of cribbage. The hotel has its own bar, the Woodsman Pub. When we checked in, they gave us a voucher for a Buy One Get One Free drink, so that was a nice bonus. We went to bed early so we could get up early for our hike!

We woke up at 5am so we could get parking at the Colchuck Lake trailhead. We planned to leave the Bavarian Lodge before the complimentary breakfast was available, and the staff was kind enough to prepare a to-go breakfast for us! They gave us brown paper bags filled with bagels, cream cheese, hard boiled eggs, apples, yogurt, and granola. They also had fresh coffee downstairs. We were grateful that they provided us a solid breakfast even though it was earlier than their stated breakfast time! The service we received at the Bavarian Lodge was phenomenal.

We then had an amazing hike to Colchuck Lake! The color of the water was emerald. Photos do not do it justice!

Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the Bavarian Lodge. The staff were so kind and the room was beautiful. You also can’t beat the location. We would highly recommend the hotel to others looking for a place to stay in Leavenworth.

Summary: Pros and Cons

After staying at the Bavarian Lodge, here’s our thoughts about the pros and cons of this hotel…

There were a lot of benefits to staying at the Bavarian Lodge! We specifically liked its location because we could walk to all of the Leavenworth downtown attractions. Parking is really difficult in downtown Leavenworth, so it was nice not to have to worry about that at all. We also really liked that there was a gas fireplace in the room. It made it so cozy! Finally, we really liked that there was a complimentary breakfast. That’s one of our favorite amenities whenever we travel. It’s really nice to not have to think about where to get breakfast and how much it will cost.

There were just a few downsides to staying at the Bavarian Lodge. The hotel was lacking a full restaurant, but that wasn’t a problem for us. We were able to easily walk to Front Street for lots of dining options. But if you don’t want to leave the hotel, then dining options are limited. Also, the Bavarian Lodge is located on the north side of Highway 2, so we did have to wait at the intersection to safely cross the road to get to Front Street. It’s not a big deal, but it can be a bit more of a hassle then staying on the other side of the highway. Finally, the Bavarian Lodge doesn’t have an indoor pool. That wasn’t an issue for us, but if you’re traveling during the winter, you might prefer an indoor pool.

Overall, we would recommend staying at the Bavarian Lodge to others. We really enjoyed our stay!
