Our Stay in Lake Chelan (Rental House with an Amazing Hot Tub!)

Last Updated on January 19, 2024 by Kelly

We just got back from a family vacation to Lake Chelan, and this time we stayed in a rental house right on the water. My favorite part of this rental house was the fact that there was a hot tub just steps away from the lake! If you’re looking for a good place to stay in Lake Chelan that’s right on the water, we definitely recommend this rental home. We’re sharing the listing to the house that we stayed at, so you can visit it yourself! We also share our favorite features of this lakefront home! (Like the cedar steam sauna with a view of the lake!) This post is our full review of staying at a rental home in Chelan.

About Our Trip to Lake Chelan

I grew up going to Lake Chelan with my family every year. Every summer we would spend two weeks camping at the Lakeshore RV Park. Now that our family has grown up and expanded, we like to book a large vacation home for our annual trip to fit us all. This year’s trip to Lake Chelan did not disappoint! In addition to family quality time right on the lake, we discovered one of our favorite hot tubs of all time! This was our first time staying at this property, and we were super impressed by its amenities.

We booked our trip for Labor Day Weekend back in January, because Chelan rental homes book up quickly during the summer. (It’s not uncommon to have to book out 9-12 months in advance!)

We had looked forward to this trip to Chelan all year long. It is exactly what we needed to completely relax and unwind after a very long and difficult year.

Amenities at the Rental Home in Chelan

We were drawn to this property on the shore of Lake Chelan because of the hot tub right on the lake. We’ve seen plenty of hot tubs with lake views, but none that were built just a few feet from the lake itself! It was the ultimate place to relax!

The lakefront home also had its own private dock. One of my favorite things to do while at Lake Chelan is to jump in the lake, and you need a dock for that experience! (Wading into the cold water is far harder in my experience.) I think I feel the most alive when I am jumping into that lake… it definitely wakes you up! We were grateful to have our own dock so we could jump right into the lake whenever we wanted.

Another unique amenity at the home was a private cedar steam sauna. Again, we have stayed in several houses with saunas, but none with a window within the sauna itself showing a direct view to the lake outside. It was another perfect place to sit back and relax. (And I would love to go back in the winter when the hills are covered in snow!)

The home also had an amazing outdoor fireplace with a direct view of the lake. There was a burn ban in effect during our visit, so we didn’t use it, but I imagine it would be amazing on a cool day.

We also appreciated that the house had plenty of deck space for reading, sunbathing, and outdoor meals. As a bonus, they had large shade covers so we really could spend all day outside.

We brought our toddler on this trip and also found it to be pretty easy to childproof. We brought two baby gates to block the stairways down to the water. (And of course we kept a close eye on her at all times!)

Drawbacks to the Rental Home

As with any listing, there are potential drawbacks. The main consideration is that although the property is very private, it’s also far from town. It was about a 30-minute drive to the city of Chelan. So, if you’re planning to do a lot of things in town, this might not be the property for you. If, on the other hand, you’re looking to completely relax and not have to leave at all, it’s perfect!

We also had some “travel fails” on this trip. The first was that the smoke detectors went off during our first day because of a low battery. It was not fun waking up in the middle of the night and trying to find which smoke detector was beeping.

There was also a wildfire near 25 Mile Creek that caused our first couple of days to be pretty hazy from smoke. We were so appreciative of the fire crews that were working hard to sure we would all be safe!

Finally, there were a lot of gnats inside the house. We kept the doors closed at all times, but somehow there were hundreds of them inside anyways. We couldn’t leave anything uncovered in the kitchen (not even a drink). It wasn’t too bad, though, because we spent almost all of our time outside.

Nearby Attractions in Chelan

We wrote a full post on Things to Do in Lake Chelan. If you’re staying at this property and want to explore some of Lake Chelan, we recommend visiting the following:

  • Slide Waters: A waterpark with lots of waterslides, a lazy river, the world’s largest stationary wave, and much more! This is one of our favorite water parks ever. It’s always clean and is a true oasis during the summer. I’ve gone to Slide Waters dozens of times, and it’s remained a family favorite.
  • Wineries: There are over 30 wineries located in the Lake Chelan area. One of our favorite wineries to visit is Rio Vista Wines. You can sip on wines right by the river. It’s a great place for a picnic. We also like to visit Tsillian Cellars Siren Song Vineyard Estate and Winery, and Tunnel Hill Winery. I actually had my bachelorette party in Chelan, and we enjoyed visiting lots of wineries!
  • Lake Chelan State Park: The state park is only 8 miles from the rental property. The state park has a playground, sandy beach, and rentals for kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.
  • Don Morse Memorial Park: Within the city of Chelan itself is the Don Morse Memorial Park. The park has a sandy beach, plenty of shady grass picnic areas, a volleyball court, and a skate park.

What to Pack for a Trip to Chelan

When visiting Chelan, we recommend that you bring the following:

    • Flotation Lounger: The water is very cold, and it’s really nice to just sit and float for awhile!
    • Group Flotation Island: If you’re going with a group, you’ll definitely be glad you packed this one!
    • Beach Towels: Be sure to pack a few!
    • Beach Toys: If you’re bringing children on your trip, this will keep them busy! We bought our daughter this set and she loved playing with it all weekend long!
    • Sun Glasses: Don’t forget sun glasses, you will need them! Bring a second pair just in case.
    • Waterproof Pouch: If you plan on doing any water activities, protect your electronic devices.

Summary: Staying at a Rental Home in Lake Chelan

I’m truly grateful for all of the memories I’ve had at Lake Chelan. It’s one of my favorite places in the world! My family and I had the opportunity to relax and completely unplug at this rental home. We really appreciated how the home was secluded and right on the water. We hope you enjoy your visit to Lake Chelan too.
